The Academic Bowl season from Eastern High School was very successful. We competed in 2 Invitational competitions, and then the Regional competition at Western High School
At the Hamilton Heights invitational we were
the over all winners in Class 3, placing first in the Science, Fine Arts, Social Studies, Math and English rounds, and 2nd in the Interdisciplinary round. At the Western Invitational, the English team, and Social Studies team placed third and the Fine Arts team got another first place finish in Class 3. The Regional competition was at Western High School where the English, Fine Arts, Social Studies, and Math teams placed second. The Science team finished with the over highest score from all the schools competing there that evening. When placing first you are then eligible to go on to the State competition at Purdue, May 7th if your scores qualify you. The Science team actually had the highest score in the State in our Class 3, and did, in fact, qualify to compete at the State finals at Purdue University.
At state Eastern finished in a three way tie for first place with Benton Central High School and Switzerland County High School. Through the tie breakers, Eastern's team ended up as State Runner Up.
The team was coached by Tom Everett, biology teacher at Eastern.
